Things to do in YEG for winter 20/21 (Part 1)
It has been a heck of a year! Many events cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic. We thought we would put together a list of events here in YEG for you to check out. Some of these events may still be changed, but here is what we found that SO FAR, are still a go!
November:
Down-Town Dining Week-This is a celebration of downtown Edmonton’s diverse culinary scene. It is 12 days long from October 28th to November the 8th . This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy special fixed priced menus from participating restaurants. $20 will get you a two-course lunch or brunch and $35 or $50 will get you a multi course dinner. These prices exclude drinks taxes and gratuity. There are 28 restaurants participating this year so far with new ones being added daily. Deadmonton Haunted House- This is a traditional favorite for Edmonton and is running from September 27th to November 3rd. This year the Deadmonton haunted house has transformed into area 51. Alien activity runs rapant and nothing is quite as it seems. This haunted house is unlike any other. Get your scream on at the Deadmonton haunted house! www.deadmontonhouse.com
The Mayfield dinner theatre’s tradition of the holiday season rock’n’roll revenue continues with your favorite actors performing some of the best tunes ever written from the 1960s, 70s 80 90s … Right up to the hits of today. Keep Calm and Rock On from November 3rd to January 24th. www.mayfieldtheatre.ca
Enjoy the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra for an evening of classical music featuring Edward Elgar Jocelyn Morlock and Ralph Vaughan Williams. This will be happening from November 5th to November 8th at the Windspear Centre. The Winspear centre has put new measures in place for the 2020-2021 season that will enable you to stay safe and healthy while enjoying the music you love. www.winspearcentre.com
Another seasonal favorite is the Canadian Tire Magic of Lights display at Castrol Raceway . This will be happening from November 20th to January 2nd 2021. Embark on a 2.5 kilometre drive through an amazing Christmas experience from the comfort of your own vehicle . Stop for popcorn and hot chocolate at the end . This year’s light show will feature some favorite displays including 12 days of Christmas, winter Wonderland the night before Christmas and the brand new Ornament Alley! www.castrolraceway.com
Another family favorite is the Edmonton Valley Zoo and the Zoominescence: A Festival of Light. Brighten up your night and come on down to cavort with the animals, slide into your skates, creative craft, and admire the artistry of the installations . The zoo’s vision is to celebrate light, artistry, imagination and the strong spirit of our YEG community during the winter months . This festival of light will happen from November 26 to January the 3rd. www.buidingourzoo.com
The Winter Wonder Forest is happening this year from November 27th to January 3rd at the Rainbow Valley campground. Come discover an enchanted drive through holiday light experience like no other! No two nights will be the same with many activities listed on the winter wonder forest activities calendar. All activities are included in the cost of a car pass which is only $30 per car. Activities include dancing light displays, ice sculptures, word carvings, musical performances and more. You can even say hello to Santa and Mrs Claus from the comfort of your own car! www.winterwonderforest.ca
